Family History

All diary entries made in 2024

I did a lot of DNA work this year, going through matches methodically and making contact with relatives. Research trips included a visit to Nottinghamshire Archives to look into Anne Leak in Retford and search for the parents of John Dunmore. I continued work on the Hinksman family, finding Maria Hinksman's marriage, tracing the Twyford branch, and investigating Mary Taylor's connection to the family. The Suffolk Chambers research came together well — I sorted out five distinct Joseph Chambers individuals in parish records between 1680 and 1815, and confirmed that Rachel Chambers, who died after being arrested in a witchcraft case in 1693, was a direct ancestor. I also added the Facer family to Gramps, researched Buckinghamshire marriage licences for connected surnames, found Dineen family entries in Gwent workhouse admissions including Helena Hemmings' vaccination record, and traced Alfred Rogers's mother Emma Wood Rogers to Surrey. Towards the end of the year I started working out an approach to Norwegian genealogy using patronymic names and farm records.
