Family History

A lot of productive work this year across several lines. I finally got confirmation from the Green Howards Museum of George Henry Chambers' enlistment date and his India postings, and wrote to the Royal Artillery Museum about 4th Mountain Artillery records from Crete in 1897. I made two visits to Buckinghamshire Archives at Aylesbury to go through Westbury parish registers and dig further into the Tew family — looking at wills, parishes around Shalstone, and the Coleman family of Sulgrave. I also did extensive work in Oxfordshire tracing the Gilks and Alcock families through Swalcliffe, Sandford St. Martin, and Banbury Quaker records, transcribing early baptism and burial registers along the way. On the Hinksman front I found the muster rolls for France and Deal in 1815-16, identified the banns at Winchester St. Maurice in 1803, and tracked down Margaret Robertson's baptism at the Scotch Church in Alnwick in 1821. I also visited the Suffolk Record Office and looked at poor relief records and Northampton Archdeaconry wills for the Tew family.
