On Friday we received the marriage certificate that we had ordered:
Marriage of George Walter Lambourne and Janet Elizabeth Rymell, 10 August 1873 at the
parish church of Tring, Hertfordshir. He was a bachelor of 21 working as a valet. He lived in
Frimley, Surrey and his father was Thomas Lambourne, possibly a Hustler or Hawker. She was
a spinster of 23 with no occupation. She lived in Tring, Hertfordshire and her father was
William Rymell, a plumber. Both could sign their names, as could the witnesses William Rymell
and Emma Rymell. They were married by licence.

Tew, Whitehead
We switched our attention back to the Tews and looked for George and Kitty Tew in the 1861 census. We first found the other George Tews from Shalstone:

He was living near a William Whitehead, possibly a relative of his wife Kitty. It was very hard to read Emma’s place of birth. We tried to find her in 1871 to get another example of her birthplace. We found an Emma Tew aged 16 working as a servant in Towcester:
1871 High Street, Towcester, Northamptonshire
Name Relation Condition Age Occupation Where Born
Emma Tew Servant Unm 16 General Servant Roade, Northamptonshire
. . . quoted from RG10-1473-40-6 ()
This was the best candidate for George’s daughter We looked again for George and Kitty’s marriage. Barry believed that Kitty was born Kitty Whitehead. However there is no trace of a George Tew and Kitty Whitehead marrying in the right period. From an earlier search we have a George Tew and Catherine Ann Law marrying:
Tew George Marriage MAR 1850 Buckingham 6 407
Law Catherine Ann Marriage MAR 1850 Buckingham 6 407
We decided to order this certificate. The merchant reference was 1010364, the worldpay transaction ID was 116440035
Rogers
We ordered Amos Rogers’ birth certificate. There were two to choose from, we chose the Wellingborough one (see 20050327). The merchant reference was 1010401, the worldpay transaction ID was 116441151
Sharpe
We looked for Mary Sharpe’s birth certificate. We believe that she was born in London around 1838. We looked from SEP 1837 to DEC 1840. We recorded the results on the GRO References page. There were a lot of candidates.
Rogers
We looked for Alfred Rogers born around 1845 in London. We started to look in SEP 1844 to JUN 1846 but there were two in the first page so we turned to something easier.
Facer
We looked for Alfred Facer born around 1847 in Wavendon (i.e. Newport Pagnell district). We searched from MAR 1845 to DEC 1850. We recorded the full results on the GRO References page. In the Newport Pagnell district we found an Esther and a Joseph Facer both with the same page reference born in 1846, Elizabeth Facer in 1848. Having no luck, we looked for him in the 1861 census:

We tried to find Alfred Facer in the 1871 census. There was no sign of him under the name Alfred Facer or Alfred Lacer. We also looked for all Alfreds born in Wavendon - there were no matches. We found Amos Facer again in 1871, in Old Bradwell, with Anna, possibly his sister:

We looked for Fred Facer too and found one aged 15 living in Wolverton with his parents George and Sarah (RG10-1560-7-5) We looked again in the GRO for Afred. This time we looked for Alfred Lacer in all of 1847 and the first quarter of 1848. We had no luck there either. We then started to look for his father, William Facer’s marriage between 1840 and 1845. We found one marrying in Rugby in 1842. On the same page were an Elizabeth Wall and Eliza Lissamer.
