So obviously Elizabeth Perkins had died fairly recently. Her brother and sister were living with William, perhaps to help him with the children. However, there were three children missing: John, Lucy and Rebecca. We went to 1837online to find Elizabeth’s death certificate. We searched from Jun 1859 to Dec 1861. Here’s what we found:
GRO Ref: 1859 DEC QTR, William Rymell, Thame, 3a, 337(?)
. . . quoted from 1859DeathOfWilliamRymell ()
GRO Ref: 1860, JUN QTR, Rebecca Rymell, Berkhampstead, 3a, p219
. . . quoted from 1860DeathOfRebeccaRymell ()
GRO Ref: 1860, JUN QTR, William Rymell, 3a, p381
. . . quoted from 1860DeathOfWilliamRymell ()
We extended our search back to 1853 and found the deaths of the twins John and Lucy the same year and quarter as their birth:
GRO Ref: 1853, MAR QTR, John Rymell, Berkhampstead, 3a, p231
. . . quoted from 1853DeathOfJohnRymell ()
GRO Ref: 1853, MAR QTR, Lucy Rymell, Berkhampstead, 3a, p232
. . . quoted from 1853DeathOfLucyRymell ()
While at 1837online, we tried to find Janet Rymell’s birth. We search from Dec Qtr 1850 to Mar Qtr 1852.
GRO Ref: 1851, SEP QTR, Emma Rymell, VI, p1150
. . . quoted from 1851BirthOfEmmaRymell ()
There was no sign of Janet. I wonder whether Emma and Janet were the same person. The only way to tell would be to order her marriage certificate and find out her father’s name and occupation. We decided to go ahead and order the certificate. The merchant reference was: 897212, the worldpay transaction id was 115265702.
